Photonic chips: Application potential is huge, but current obstacles still need to be overcome

Recently, scientists at the University of Oxford have launched a photonic chip based on light that is said to be 300 times faster than traditional electronic semiconductors. 
It is reported that the chip takes advantage of the fact that different polarizations of light or waves do not interact, providing the potential for higher performance and higher energy efficiency, and researchers are able to use nanotechnology to contain several different polarizations on a single chip, which proves that it can process large amounts of data in parallel without interference, which shows that the development potential of future photonic chips is huge. 
Compared with electronic chips, photonic chips that use photons for information transmission processing can achieve faster and more intensive information processing. At present, Oxford University‘s experimental work on this type is still in its early stages, and many aspects of it need further research and analysis; However, the number of practical applications of photonic semiconductors on the market today has increased, which is enough to prove that photonic chips are quite useful and are gradually being put into practical use. 
Although the current price of silicon photonic chips is still very high, with the simplification of manufacturing, the future of photonic chips will be full of bright, even if it still needs to solve the problems of "process standardization, process customization, and price reasonableness".
