On October 28, 2021, Credo announced the launch of its 800G HiWire AEC (Active Electrical Cable) product series in Shanghai, China, a new product designed specifically for the very large data center DDC (distributed, disaggregated chassis) scenario: 800G HiWire™ CLOS AEC, this 8x 112G (single channel) copper cable is the first member of the Credo 800G AEC series.
Credo is a global innovation leader focusing on providing high-performance, low-power advanced connection solutions for 800G/400G/100G port networks.
Don Barnetson, vice president of Credo products, said: "Credo believes that 800G is the node where passive DACs are facing a wall-for most customer applications, DACs are too thick and not flexible enough, which will increase the cost and engineering burden of switch manufacturers. Credo‘s newly launched 800G CLOS AEC has similar wire diameter and touch to Cat6 cable, with 100 times higher reliability than AOC, but power consumption is only half of the AOC solution. It is expected to be mass-produced in early 2022.
The CLOS AEC 800G PAM4 cable has two specifications, QSFP-DD800 (Quad Small Form Factor Pluggable Multi-source Protocol Group) and OSFP (Octal Small Form Factor Pluggable). The Credo Retimer function is integrated inside the cable, which can achieve high performance without the need for other external components, which simplifies user design and reduces system cost and power consumption.
